Mounting Ecobee to Existing Electrical Box

chad.jochad.jo Chicago, ILMember

I was finally able to figure out the wiring, and my Ecobee now has power! Here's my next question. My old thermostat was mounted to an electrical box, which is still surrounded by drywall. Because nothing can be easy, the holes aren't even close to lining up. Does anyone know of a bracket or plate that will allow me to mount the Ecobee to the existing box?

Get a flat blank plate from the hardware store of the same size then drill a big hole in the middle for the HVAC wires. Make sure and protect the edges with a gromet or at least tape. You will then need to drill and tap holes to mount the Ecobee plate on.
